Your Moroccan journey kicks off with a drive deep into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains, through the stunning Tizi n’Tichka Pass. En-route, visit panoramic views, Berber villages, until you reach the Ait Ben Haddou which is a World Heritage site, visit this spectacular fortified village along with a local guide. After visiting the village, proceed to Ouarzazate the “Hollywood of Morocco”for your first overnight at a cozy riad or hotel. Dinner included.
Following breakfast, depart from Ouarzazate and travel to Skoura: a magnificent palm grove sprinkled with ancient kasbahs. Next, drive through the Valley of Roses, particularly spectacular in spring, later, wend our way through Berber villages and vivid rock formations along the stretch leading to Boumalne Dades. Here, the Dades Gorges literally cut through the rocky landscape, creating red canyon walls. Spend the night in a charming local hotel or guest house and fit in a peaceful walk or a sunset vista over the valley. Dinner and breakfast included.
Today we move further south. After breakfast, drive through the Todgha valley to Huge Todgha Gorges where you will enjoy a short walk along the enchanting river, then continue travelling through Erfoud and Rissani to arrive at Merzouga, the entry point of the immense Sahara. Replace your car with a camel as you ride through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset. Tonight, you’ll experience the magic of the desert at a luxury camp, dining under the stars, listening to Berber music around the fire pit and sleeping in a beautifully appointed tent with every amenity you could possibly need.
Today after a typical breakfast we depart on a 4×4 tour of the Merzouga region. First we will visit Khamlia village to listen to grizzled veterans playing traditional Gnawa music. Next visit nomadic families residing in tents. Furthermore, we pass by fossil-studded plains and pull in at the seasonally dry salt lake of Dayet Srji (if there’s water). Later in the afternoon, check into a lovely hotel or riad in Merzouga for rest and relaxation, a swim, or just some down time by the pool in time for you to enjoy watching the sun go down over the dunes. Dinner and breakfast included.
After having your breakfast, say goodbye to the desert and let’s leave for Fes. We will drive through the stunning Ziz Valley, which is renowned for its uninterrupted miles of palm trees and impressive rock faces. Keep driving through the town of Midelt, located in the Middle Atlas Mountains, where you will have lunch. Then continue through the cedar forests of Azrou look out for Barbary macaques prancing about and the alpine-feeling town of Ifrane, before getting to Fes in the early evening. Your arrival at your riad or hotel delivers you back to reality, closing the book on the last 5 days of your Moroccan adventure.
