2-day Morocco desert tour

Day 1:Fes - Ifrane - Cedar Forest - Midelt - Zaida - Ziz Valley - Merzouga Desert – (~470 km / 7–8 hours drive)

Your morning begins with an early departure from Fes, leaving behind the Middle Atlas Mountains, as we travel south. The road proceeds through attractive towns such as Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” and Azrou, a stopping point to view the cedar forests and wild Barbary monkeys. Next drive on past the apple orchards of Midelt and the palmeries in the wider Ziz Valley, you’ll eventually stand at the edge of the Sahara at Merzouga.

Here is where you will ride out to the dunes to relax and take in magical scenery of desert as the sun sets on the horizon. Once the lights of the day start to fade, a luxury desert camp will be your base for the night offering you a traditional dinner and Berber music by the fire in an expansive sky filled with stars.

Day 2:Merzouga - Todgha gorges - Ait ben Haddou Kasbah - Marrakech – (~560 km / 9–10 hours drive)

Wake early to see the sunrise over the dunes and return to the village of Merzouga on camel or in a 4×4. Then, hit the road for the long but scenic drive west to Marrakech.  Today’s first visit is the dramatic Todgha Gorges, a narrow cleft with 300 meters high canyons, sculpted by the Todgha River, where a walk and photos are a must. The road takes you through a desert landscape until you reach the first adobe village of kasbahs that is named Tamdakhte and you will not be surprised this is where you will explore the exotic Kasbah Ighouliden. 30 kms further you begin to see the ancient Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou (a UNESCO World Heritage protected site) that is situated on a hill along the Ounila River and is guarded by its old defense system. On arrival at Marrakech, your Fes to Marrakech Desert tour 2 Days will come to an end.

Our 2-day tour with Private Moroccan Tour was absolutely amazing, and that’s thanks to our incredible guide, Hassan. From the moment we were picked up in Marrakech to the final drop-off in Fes, everything was seamless. Hassan was not only professional and knowledgeable but also kind, funny, and always attentive to our needs. He shared so much insight into Moroccan history, culture, and local traditions. Riding camels into the Sahara and spending the night in a desert camp was a dream come true. I can’t recommend Hassan and this company enough!

I booked a private tour from Fes with Private Moroccan Tour and was lucky to have Hassan as my guide. He was incredibly organized, flexible with our requests, and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout. We explored hidden gems, ate delicious local food, and learned so much from him along the way. The highlight was definitely the night under the stars in the Merzouga desert. Hassan’s passion for his country truly shows in everything he does. A flawless experience I would recommend to anyone visiting Morocco!
